Using behaviour to assess animal welfare (2004)
Dawkins, M. S.
Abstract
Because of the difficulty of interpreting physiological measures of welfare, as well as the stress they may cause when they are taken, there is an increasing need to find more reliable and less invasive methods of welfare assessment. The most obvious, least intrusive and potentially most powerful alternative of all is the animal's behaviour. [p.6]
