The effect of cage size on play and aggression between dogs in purpose-bred Beagles (1993)
Bebak, J., Beck, A. M.
Abstract
There were no difference in aggression or play [in groups of female Beagles tested in barren cages], but the dogs did put significantly more distance between themselves in the large cage. ... When given a larger cage, the dogs use the extra space. They do not appear to actively avoid each other when given more space.
