Playle, L., Scott, A.
Abstract
The NC3Rs (National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research) recognises and supports the important role that animal technicians play in reducing animal suffering and achieving high standards of animal welfare. Animal technicians are well placed to develop and implement the 3Rs, particularly refinements to husbandry and procedures. It is therefore important for technicians to have access to up to date information on the 3Rs and also to disseminate their own findings. The NC3Rs has a number of activities to heop achieve this such as a website and information portal, an annual symposium and 3Rs research funding, etc. Refinement: Improvements to husbandry and procedures which minimise actual or potential pain, suffering, distess or lasting harm and/or improve animal welfare.
