Studies of disturbed behaviour in macaques (1988)
Goosen, C.
Abstract
Stereotyped locomotion amounted to about 20% of the time when the subjects were housed solitary. The amount of time spent in this behaviour was reduced to about 4% when the subjects had one or more social partners. Stereotyped locomotion was independent of cage size. The results of the above study indicate that with regard to the protection of well-being one could probably contribute significantly to the prevention of behavioural disturbances by weaning the infants at ages which are more comparable to the age of natural weaning.
