Space use for captive chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) (1992)

Fritz, J., Maki, S., Nankivell, B.

Abstract

This indicates social changes may have a stronger effect on space use than enclosure size change. Maintaining social group integrity when animals are moved to new enclosures may be the best way to ensure psychological wellness during environmental change. Regardless of enclosure size, or group composition, all subjects preferred locales with visual access to the outdoors and/or caregiver maintenance activity.
