Abstract
With effective management strategies, it can be argued that the benefits of social housing exceed the disadvantages for most nonhuman primates and for the majority of primate species housed in laboratory settings. ... Different strategies will be required to promote the psychological well-being of these animals so as to maintain the integrity of the scientific enterprise. ... Having access to one ore more [compatible] companions may the most effective way to foster psychological well-being in most nonhuman primates.
