Shredded paper as enrichment for infant chimpanzees (1995)

Kessel, A. L., Brent, L., Walljasper, T.

Abstract

Shredded paper was scattered throughout the room with the [group-housed] infants present on Monday morning and was removed on Friday afternoon. During a four-week study period shredded paper had limited effects on the chimpanzees' behavior, although it encouraged more independent behavior and provided the infants with novel play opportunities.
