Effects of physical and chemical restraint on intravenous glucose tolerance test in crested black macaques (Macaca nigra)
Restrained monkeys appeared relaxed, but glucose clearance and insulin secretion were impaired and cortisol values increased.

When introducing new animals to an established group, the new animals should be unfamiliar with one another so as not to form competing 'teams'. Additions to groups should include enough animals so that aggression from the resident group will be...

Read MoreCage design and configuration for an arboreal species of primate
Squirrel monkeys preferred a poly-vinyl-chloride pipe perch (rigid) over rope perches (non-rigid). For an arboreal animal, a higher perch may be perceived as safer. Additional perches decreased the propensity for development of tail ulcers associated with floor contact. With only...

All animals avoided areas with little cover. The two tamarin families preferred an indoor cage to a large open area with little cover and consequently only showed a limited range of behavior when outside. When dense cover was provided to...

Chimpanzees preferred to play with ropes which acted unpredictably because the distant ends were in cages of other chimpanzees. Normal ropes were ignored.
