Meeting the personnel resource needs for a quality environmental enrichment program (2001)

Jorgboyan, I. K.

Abstract

Successful compliance with the requirements to promote the psychological well-being of nonhuman primates requires an investment in time and training that may not be readily available to many institutions. Creative program must be established so that routine husbandry and research can continue unimpeded while the environmental enrichment program is implemented and monitored. This poster describes one solution to this dilemma: the utilization of talented and enthusiastic students from a local college who are hired to supplement the work force and who concentrate on the institution's environmental enrichment program. ... The success of the program is due to careful selection of highly motivated students who learn to work in an environment that is novel and educational. The public relations benefits of this program are also discussed.
