Formation of a new social group of unfamiliar female rhesus monkeys affects the immune and pituitary adrenocortical systems (1991)

Abstract

Eight adult females were introduced into an enclosure. Initial dominance rank was established within 48 h by noncontact threats and chases and was unchanged throughout the [9-week] study. Only two minor wounds were recorded. The animals showed stress responses during the first 9 weeks after group formation.
