Enrichment options: Rotating logs for great apes (1994)
Rathfelder, K.
Abstract
The logs are fixed as far outside the ceiling fence as they only can be reached with selected branches provided by the keepers. Using these sticks, the apes have to bring the log out of equilibrium and turn the log to get at the food. The device asks not only for skills and patience to turn the log but also for skills to catch the tidbits which are often a spoil of cagemates.
