Enrichment for stud males in MRC Ares (2025)
McCool, J.
Abstract
Sometimes within the laboratory environment mice may be housed on their own for example when being used as studs for cryopreservation. As these animals do not have a companion for enrichment it is important that these mice are provided with enough alternative enrichments to fulfil their natural behaviour. As stud males will not be used for experiments it gives more scope for the types of enrichments that can be used such as different foods as well as nesting can be added to the cages. This poster explores the use of different enrichments for singly housed stud males and the potential effects these may have on plug rates.
