Definition of criteria for overall assessment of animal welfare (2007)

Botreau, R., Veissier, I., Butterworth, A. et al.

Abstract

Welfare is multidimensional, comprising good health, comfort, expression of behaviour. Its overall assessment therefore requires a multicriteria evaluation. We propose a set of 12 subcriteria grouped into four criteria: feeding, housing, health and appropriate behaviour including expression of social behaviours, expression of other behaviours, good human-animal relationship and absence of general fear.
