Chimpanzee enclosure design for the 21st century (1997)

Lash, N.

Abstract

The key to good design is to give the animal opportunities to do what the animal likes to do, thus reducing stress and decreasing boredom. For arboreal primates, climbing high off the ground is enjoyable and comfortable and they choose climbing opportunities within their enclosure for that purpose.
