Behavioural diversity as a measure of welfare: a study in pigs (1994)
Hirt, H., Wechsler, B.
Abstract
As expected, overall behavioural diversity (69 ethogram elements) was highest in the straw-bedded pen with the enriched outside yard and lowest in the strawless pen. .. Interestingly, the pigs in the strawless pen did not compensate for their poor diversity in exploratory and manipulative behaviour with an increased diversity in social behaviour.
