Abstract
The Centre for Macaques (CFM) houses Rhesus Macaques (Macaca mulatta) in groups of 2 to 18 individuals with ages ranging from birth to 16 years. We strive to create a comprehensive enrichment program with a variety of diverse types catering to all age ranges and group sizes. As a result of this we observe a higher occurrence of positive behavioural markers. This process creates a positive experience for both staff and animals which helps create the Culture of Care. In addition to this, providing enrichment enhances the quality of life by encouraging natural and desirable behaviours such as allogrooming, foraging and allows for learned behaviours from their social group (Figure 1). Enrichment types can often fall into multiple enrichment categories (e.g. a mirror is both visual and tactile).
