Clardy, B. E., Grady, A. W., Taylor, W. M.

Abstract

Bedding was mixed with the daily food ration plus food treats and offered in a 30-gallon barrel which could be attached to the cage door, allowing the nonhuman primate to move freely between the enrichment barrel and its home cage. ... [single-housed] nonhuman primates forage in the enrichment barrel at all time of the day. Other benefits of the barrels included additional temporary cage space (1.77sq.m), increased cage complexity, increased opportunities to observe other nonhuman primates in the room, and increased interaction with animal technicians. (Species studied is not indicated.)
