A puppy playroom as opportunity for exercise and learning prior to adoption (1999)

Evans, E. I., Gates, G. R., Green, V. D.

Abstract

Single-gender, same study groups play in the room with various types of interactive toys while their cages and housing rooms are cleaned. ... Anticipation of play time is evident as dogs jump eagerly in their cages and, when placed on the floor, run directly to their playroom door. Observations from the hallway indicates dogs are learning to share and entertain themselves but willingness to return to their cages to eat and eliminate is obvious when a human enters the room. ... The image of 'puppy play' and successful adoption has also enhanced the reputation of the animal facility within the company and with our clients.
